I met up with Jeff Crum in Conway, and after some good conversation and learning that we had actually met before, we met up with Scott Blair and George Hoelzeman in Sallisaw, OK. From there we proceeded west with a couple of stops to get out and get a good look at what was going on around us. The main feature visible was all the lower level clouds that were well ahead of the dryline. This was also my first trip that far west, so I was amazed at how flat and level the land was, with only a small amount of trees. It was easily understandable why this was considered perfect chasing country.
We proceeded west on I-40, and unfortunately, we ran into some heavy traffic near Oklahoma City while viewing four dryline induced supercells go up around us. However, they were too far away to chase, and darkness was beginning to set in. We made it as far as El Reno, before deciding to call the chase off and stop at the local Pizza Hut for dinner before heading back to Arkansas.
A succesful first chase for me, since I got my first decent look at some supercells.
